COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local voters can help decide which spot has the best chicken wings in metro Phoenix through The Arizona Republic's poll, with voting open until Sunday, Feb. 1. The poll invites residents to choose from nine top wing spots or submit a write-in if needed.  The Arizona Republic
  • Scottsdale City Council voted (5-1) on Jan. 27 to award $90,000 to market the grand opening of a new 12,000 sqft addition, the Louis Sands IV Center, at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West; the center will feature the Eddie Basha collection of western art.  Scottsdale Independent
  • The Scottsdale Firefighters Association donated $5K (supporting first responders, veterans and families) to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation during Super Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, following a charity sale that saw a Corvette ZR1X sell for over $2.6 million.  Scottsdale Independent
  • UMOM New Day Centers received a $1.5 million grant from the Bob and Renee Parsons Foundation to expand shelter and support programs for families facing homelessness.   • Scottsdale business and charity leaders, along with Mayor Lisa Borowsky and Councilwoman Maryann McAllen, raised $40,000 for Riot Gives Back and Make‑A‑Wish Arizona at the fourth annual Rock the Rooftop fundraiser held at the W Scottsdale Hotel on Sunday, Nov. 21 (hosted by Jason Adler and local partners).  Arizona Digital Free Press

  • From Jan. 17-25, the 2026 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction at WestWorld featured 1,911 vehicles bid on by 6,500 participants, bringing in more than $191 million; a 1955 Mercedes-Benz drew the top bid at $2.53 million — a strong kick-off to the season.  ABC15 Arizona

  • On Jan. 28, Yelp ranked Cafe Monarch as the top romantic restaurant in the U.S. while five other Arizona spots also earned placements in the 2026 list based on Elite reviews of their ambiance and fine dining.  The Arizona Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal officials have dropped penalties over DEI programs, casting doubt on Arizona’s plan to remove DEI language from teaching standards. State Superintendent Tom Horne says eliminating DEI is vital to avoid losing an estimated $866 million in funding (education groups call for a policy review to protect inclusive learning).  Scottsdale Independent
