  • Family Promise of Greater Phoenix will host its fifth annual Wines Around the World fundraiser on March 27 at The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale, featuring global wine tastings, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and silent and live auctions to raise over $400,000 for 750 families.  Scottsdale Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Scottsdale Philharmonic will perform “A Rhapsody of Passion and Elegance” on Sunday, March 22 at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church (6300 E. Bell Rd.) as the spring season continues with concerts on May 3 and June 28 and a Summer Series starting July 28.  City Sun Times
  • Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market returns to WestWorld in Scottsdale from April 24 to 26, offering over 160 vendors with vintage treasures, artisan goods, live music, and food trucks for a lively shopping experience.  City Sun Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • APS is proposing a new formula that would increase residential power bills by about $20/month while allowing annual, incremental changes over five years – the move is under review at the Arizona Corporation Commission and a final hearing is scheduled for May.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report found that Arizona law does not ban self-sampling produce, but grocery stores including Fry's and Sprouts require customer requests for supervised tasting. Officials stress that only official samples meet FDA safety guidelines, and customers must wash produce if sampling on their own.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joe Giacinto, a 21-year-old blind and autistic clarinet player from the Valley, will perform the national anthem at Chase Field for the Diamondbacks' home opener on March 30. The team saw his inspiring ABC15 story, making the event a long-awaited moment.  ABC15 Arizona
