  • Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new indoor train-themed playground and splashpad scheduled to open in July as part of a $13.1 million project funded by bonds approved in 2019. The park also will feature a redesigned entry plaza at Stillman Station with seating, plants, public art, new restrooms, pathways & exterior lighting.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park will mark its 50th anniversary this summer with plans to boost attendance through new features, including a 10,000-square-foot indoor, train-themed playground and a 5,000-square-foot splashpad play area set to open in July (costing $13.1 million from bond financing approved in 2019).  Scottsdale Independent

  • A Triple Twist lottery ticket worth $1,673,418 was sold at a Circle K on 4101 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale—lottery officials said—and a Fast Play Space Invaders Cash Invasion ticket worth $50,000 was sold at Quick Corner Liquor and Drive Through on 1555 E. Baseline Road in Phoenix, making two lucky players richer this weekend.  The Arizona Republic
  • IKEA will open its Plan & Order Point at The Promenade Scottsdale this spring, where customers can meet with team members to plan and order home furnishings in a 2000-square-foot space. The facility will serve Scottsdale residents by offering in-person appointments and design help for spaces such as kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.  Scottsdale Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Game and Fish Department has more than 100 rescued Sonoran desert tortoises in custody that cannot survive in the wild and are now offered for adoption under a revived state program. Tegan Wolf from the Desert Tortoise Adoption program said the reptiles face risks like mycoplasma (a contagious respiratory disease) and have shown they can bond with new owners.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton appointed Jeff Walther as assistant city manager and Joe LeDuc as police chief; both had served in interim roles since Jan. 27. Caton said their strong records—built over years of work in the police department—made the decision easy for the city.  Scottsdale Independent
