BUSINESS NEWS

  • Readers voted Fry's as the top grocery for prices after it captured 27% of votes in a recent poll. The chain (with its Signature store on North Hayden Road in Scottsdale) competes with several grocers expanding across metro.  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale will host its Juneteenth celebration this summer, led by Mayor Lisa Borowsky (honorary chair) and Arizona NAACP. The Freedom Festival takes place on June 13 at the Civic Center area, and a gospel breakfast is set for June 19 at the Performing Arts Center, aiming to fund youth programs.  Scottsdale Progress
  • Cosanti in Paradise Valley is hosting a hands-on casting workshop on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Instructor Dakota Petersen will guide 15 participants (workshop fee $125) as they use desert earth to create plaster tiles with design and excavation exercises.  Scottsdale Independent

  • The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board approved new leadership for Cherokee Elementary and Saguaro High, with Brittany Walker and Matthew Georgia set to begin as principals on July 1, 2026. SUSD also named Victor Butch Goncharoff as head football coach — a meet‑the‑coach event will be announced later.  Arizona Digital Free Press
  • The Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable will host historian Neil Chatelain on Tuesday, May 19 for a presentation about Civil War mineral wealth at the Scottsdale Public Library Civic Center branch (3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd). Doors will open at 5 p.m. for a book sale and Civil War video display.  City Sun Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scottsdale city leaders are considering an employee health clinic to help manage rising healthcare costs and improve access for employees and their families. The proposal is in planning and will require City Council approval as part of the fiscal year 2026/27 budget.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Kelson Hogan from Corona del Sol threw a javelin 211 feet, 2 inches (second best in state history) at the Tempe All-City Championship on April 21, setting a new mark. He now aims to break the U.S. high school record to earn a college scholarship.  The Arizona Republic
