  • Paul Messinger, known as ‘Mr. Scottsdale’, died April 22 at 95 and was celebrated for decades of service on the city council and in the state legislature—he helped found key local services including the first ambulance and mortuary. A public visitation is scheduled Tuesday, April 29 from 3-8 p.m. at Messinger Indian School Mortuary with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on April 30 and interment at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Scottsdale Progress

  • California-based jewelry brand gorjana opened a new store at Scottsdale Fashion Square on April 25—its lower level venue offers elegant and modern style. The store, which is the brand’s 100th location, holds extra meaning for founder Gorjana Reide who grew up in Scottsdale and once worked at Fashion Square.  Scottsdale Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • NFL writers gave the Arizona Cardinals' 2025 NFL Draft a mix of high and average grades—four picks earned A's while others received B's or a C. Analysts praised defensive selections such as Walter Nolen and Will Johnson but noted concerns about filling gaps on offense.  The Arizona Republic
  • After finishing their three-game series against the Braves on April 27, the Diamondbacks will start an eastern road trip with a three-game series against the Mets on April 29 at 4:10 p.m. Phoenix time and then a three-game series in Philadelphia from May 2, with Ketel Marte expected to return from the injured list soon—adding focus before the team adjusts to less time zone change later this month.  The Arizona Republic
