  • Metro Phoenix is set for busy 2026 as new entertainment venues open, including the Arizona Boardwalk SkyWheel near Scottsdale later this month (exact date pending), Buc-ee’s in Goodyear on June 22, and a 4D theater at Harkins in August, with other attractions also planned.  The Arizona Republic

  • The Coronado Foundation for the Future and Scottsdale Charros will award 25 scholarships valued up to $6,000 each to Coronado High School students at a signing dinner on Wednesday, May 6 (per a press release); the awards support tuition and mentorship for students heading to college or trade programs.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona legalized recreational cannabis in 2020, but legal experts say smoking in public is a petty offense that can lead to fines up to $500 while strict rules govern transport, smoking in cars, and home cultivation.   • Gila monsters, venomous reptiles native to the Sonoran Desert, inflict painful bites that cause swelling and rapid heartbeats, though healthy adults usually recover. Experts advise hikers to keep a safe distance during cool April mornings.  The Arizona Republic
  • Arizona author Terry Green Sterling revealed she was diagnosed with non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease, an emerging health threat that requires prolonged treatment and strict lung hygiene (including measures to avoid bacteria from soil and water).  KJZZ

  • Caesars Republic Scottsdale has opened its summer pool season at Wolf Pool and Cleopatra’s Pool & Bar starting today.
