COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Phoenix Rescue Mission launches its 13th Code:Red Summer Heat Relief Campaign today to deliver water, hygiene kits and case management to support the Valley’s unhoused and at-risk residents amid rising extreme heat. The campaign, which runs through Aug. 31, aims to collect one million bottles of water and sees local cities such as Scottsdale partnering with the mission to distribute relief.  Arizona Digital Free Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Narwhal's Crafted, a frozen cocktail bar from St. Louis, is planning to open franchise locations in Scottsdale and Phoenix, targeting retail spaces between 2,600 and 4,000 square feet in busy, walkable areas. Scottsdale-based Terrafirma Commercial Real Estate is assisting with site selection — franchise agreements are expected to be signed by the end of the year, though no opening date has been set.  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • Metro Phoenix will celebrate Star Wars Day on Sunday, May 4 with events that include a 5K run near Scottsdale, a live music concert in Paradise Valley, trivia and paint and sip in downtown Phoenix, and a LEGO building party in Chandler — offering fans many ways to join the fun. The events will feature themed activities and special surprises for Star Wars enthusiasts.  The Arizona Republic
  • Sculptor Gordon Paul Mischke will display his work at the Holland Center at 34250 N. 60th Street, Building B in Scottsdale on May 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. He has lived in the Valley since 1974 and reservations are $10—proceeds support the Sonoran Arts League and Holland Community Center art programs.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7, Arizonans will need a Real ID-compliant form of identification to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings—those without acceptable IDs will face extra security screening at airports. Applicants can apply after the deadline by providing the required documents and completing an in-person interview to receive their new ID about two weeks later.  The Arizona Republic
  • Councilman Barry Graham's interactions with city staff led to an ethics investigation after a complaint accused him of halting a 68th Street sidewalk extension project—an independent investigator found his requests imprudent but not a charter violation. The panel will interview key employees and review Cassidy’s report at 9:30 a.m. May 5 while a separate Open Meetings Law complaint remains under review.  Scottsdale Progress
