- ➤ Scottsdale Arts has been awarded a $6,000 biannual grant from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America to back its Memory Lounge program for older adults with early to moderate Alzheimer’s and their care partners — the program will offer free arts therapy workshops to boost social and creative engagement. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 1, the Maricopa Association of Governments published a map to help residents find cooling centers, hydration stations, collection sites, and respite centers during dangerous summer heat; the network will run until September 30. The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services will run 11 heat relief stations and a mobile hydration unit (operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on Sept. 25–29) to support high-risk areas. - ➤ Scottsdale is planning to hire outside legal counsel to review its legal options after Gov. Hobbs signed SB 1543 in April, which allows Axon to build its proposed headquarters. City Council will consider a resolution at its May 6 meeting to transfer up to $200,000 from the City Attorney’s Office budget—an effort aimed at addressing the bill’s constitutionality, as Mayor Lisa Borowsky noted. - ➤ Northbound Loop 101 in Scottsdale will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project north of Shea Boulevard—drivers should expect detours including closed on-ramps at Via De Ventura and 90th Street.
