CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale Public Art opened Desert Diamonds: Scottsdale’s 75th Anniversary at the Civic Center Public Gallery (inside Scottsdale Civic Center Library), running from April 10 to June 30 to showcase local artworks that trace the city’s art history since 1951 and honors its creative legacy for future inspiration.  Arizona Digital Free Press
  • Arizona celebrates Cinco de Mayo with festivals offering live music, food and Mexican cultural events. In Phoenix, the 33rd Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival runs today from noon to 10 p.m., while free street fairs add local flair and Tucson celebrations start May 5.  The Arizona Republic
  • Royse Contemporary is hosting a solo exhibition titled UNTITLED by artist Gennaro Garcia at 7077 E. Main St., Suite 6 in the Scottsdale Arts District; the exhibit features his paintings, prints, and sculptures and will remain on view through May 24.  Arizona Digital Free Press
  • Yungblud will perform at Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix on May 25 as part of his 24-date Idols World Tour, playing hits like Zombie from his latest album. Scottsdale fans may travel to catch the energetic concert.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heat relief sites opened Friday, May 1 in Maricopa County to offer free cooled spaces and resources through Sept. 30. The Maricopa County Department of Public Health and the Maricopa Association of Governments launched the program to protect people vulnerable to extreme heat, involving government + community partners.  Scottsdale Independent

  • OpenTable published a list on May 2 that names three local restaurants as best brunch spots. Among them, Scottsdale's Cafe Monarch (which offers a Sunday brunch) and two Phoenix venues are rated highly, though they are known more for dinner menus.  The Arizona Republic
