  • Make-A-Wish Arizona raised $2.4 million at its Wish Ball 2026 on March 28 at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, where over 800 guests supported wish grants for critically ill children to travel.   • One Step Beyond Inc. promoted Jeff Swanson to chief executive officer today to lead the nonprofit's next phase and guide upcoming projects — including the Nikki's Next Step residential initiative in northern Glendale aimed at easing housing challenges for adults with intellectual disabilities with a targeted opening in late 2027.  Arizona Digital Free Press

  • SkySong celebrates its 20th anniversary this year as a mixed-use development reborn from the old Los Arcos mall in south Scottsdale, hosting over 50 tenants and more than 300 employees. The 1.2 million sqft facility generates an estimated $1.3 billion in annual economic output, according to a 2021 study.  Scottsdale Independent

  • BASIS Scottsdale senior Vedang Chintalapati was named a Flinn Scholar at a May 2 ceremony in Scottsdale, earning a full-ride award valued at over $135,000 for college expenses — a win that sets the stage for his future studies at ASU.  East Valley Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado River Lower Basin states sent a two-year proposal to cut CAP water by 20% that meets Scottsdale’s planning assumptions, officials said in a May 4 memo (Scottsdale gets about 70%-75% of its CAP water). The measure aims to stabilize Lake Mead and lessen shortages.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale Unified School District is considering a school bond for improvements and maintenance; the board will review proposals on May 12 and submit ballot language by June 8 (the county deadline) to include the request on the November ballot.  Scottsdale Progress

  • Diamondbacks utility man Ildemaro Vargas earned his first National League Player of the Month award after hitting .378 with six homers in 23 games through April, thanks to injuries that gave him a starting role and a record-setting 27-game hit streak, the longest for a Venezuelan-born player.  The Arizona Republic
