CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old male was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting that injured a man at a bus stop near Scottsdale Road and Main Street on May 24—two 16-year-olds were arrested on May 28 after a surveillance photo was shared and a third suspect was arrested on June 5 on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.  Scottsdale Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • This summer, many STEM & STEAM camps will offer Scottsdale students hands-on learning to build skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Programs will be hosted by schools, nonprofits, and local organizations (including Scottsdale Parks & Recreation) and will vary in theme, session length, and cost.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scottsdale faces a lawsuit from the Goldwater Institute — arguing the sales tax increase did not get a 60% vote — while city officials say the rule does not apply to local measures. The tax, passed last fall with 58.25% of the vote, will begin on July 1.  KJZZ
  • Rick Wielebski was promoted to aviation director at Scottsdale Airport and will manage its operations and development. With over 20 years of aviation experience—including a decade as Atlantic Aviation's general manager overseeing major projects—he brings strong expertise to his new role.  Scottsdale Independent
