- ➤ Zata Mediterranean Market in Scottsdale was named the first Blue Zones approved grocer in Arizona for adopting health-focused practices—such as removing sugar-sweetened drinks from checkout lanes, creating a dedicated checkout lane for healthy snacks, and highlighting fresh produce and local bread. - ➤ Blue Zones Project Scottsdale announced that Zata Mediterranean Market at 11291 E. Via Linda has been named Arizona’s first Blue Zones approved grocery store. The market implemented health-focused changes including removing sugar-sweetened beverages from checkout lanes — a move meant to give customers easier access to healthier options. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Councilman Barry Graham’s Feb. 7 meeting with city employees violated the ethics code, a three-judge panel said on June 5 — the violation was technical and unintentional. The panel recommended no penalty while the complaint by Laura Norton continues, and the city council will decide on the panel’s report at a public meeting. Scottsdale Progress
- ➤ Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky said she was shocked to receive the 'Parkingate Tapes' from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office after an anonymous complaint over private meetings about a parking garage, with three council members accusing her of a power grab. Her lawyers are now reviewing the records (which include harsh remarks from council members) to decide on her next legal step. Scottsdale Progress
- ➤ At a May 29 town hall at Mustang Library, Mayor Lisa Borowsky addressed a packed crowd and explained she backed delaying the Old Town parking garage by calling for an updated parking study—she also voiced concerns about Senate Bill 1543 limiting local zoning power.
