CRIME NEWS

  • Scottsdale PD is searching for 14-year-old Roman Reid, who went missing yesterday around 12:30 p.m. near 128th Street and Cactus Road—he is believed to be on a trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.  ABC15 Arizona
  • Former Maricopa County Attorney’s Office detective John Byrd, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April, is being sentenced today for the July 2024 killing of his wife Elizabeth—he faces a sentence of 10 to 25 years as her family remembers her.  ABC15 Arizona

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scottsdale high school student Ella Miller received the prestigious 45th Jeff Cross Bronze Bell Award for her acrylic, oil pastel, and Indian ink artworks at a ceremony on May 12th at Cactus Shadows High School—more than 100 students were honored for their fine arts achievements. She credited her family and art teacher for their support and will begin her freshman year as a Barrett Honors Digital Animation major at ASU in August.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maricopa County processed 7,115 eviction filings in May, marking the busiest eviction month on record. A county spokesperson said families were given a court date to meet a judge before a constable served the eviction—an effort to ensure due legal process.  ABC15 Arizona
