Good morning, Scottsdale. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 11th of July.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new study found Arizona ranks fourth in teen driving deaths per capita, with summer months being especially dangerous due to distracted driving, lack of seatbelt use, and inexperience — a risk compounded by state law that allows teens to ride unbuckled.  ABC15 Arizona

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale Arts’ Canal Convergence—set to run November 7 to 16 at the Scottsdale Waterfront—features a free 10-night event with large-scale public artworks, live music, dance, creative workshops, food trucks and a beer and wine garden. It will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and will commission more dance, music and light performances than before.  Scottsdale Independent

FINANCE NEWS

  • Arizona homeowners might face higher capital gains taxes if new rules do not pass as the National Association of Realtors supports legislation to double current exemptions—nearly half now hold more than $250,000 in home equity. Analysts warn that high tax rates may slow the housing market if limits remain unchanged.  The Arizona Republic

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jess McClain, a decorated track alum from Xavier Prep, will represent Team USA in the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September after she narrowly missed a podium finish in recent major races. She trains in Flagstaff to escape the Valley's summer heat—replacing Betsy Saina who is stepping aside with a baby on the way—to make her first international appearance.  The Arizona Republic
