COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family Promise of Greater Phoenix has doubled its shelter capacity with a new partnership with A New Leaf—serving over 400 Valley families each year.  Scottsdale Independent
  • St. Vincent de Paul's Companion Animal Program provides free pet care services at a monthly pop-up clinic at the Washington Street shelter, where volunteers give vaccinations and treatments to pets. Donations support the program and help community members keep their pets healthy — a service that meets an important local need.  ABC15 Arizona

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casey Curran: Tidal Sky opens at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art on October 11—an exhibit that shows hope and new beginnings through art that reflects today’s challenges like climate worry and political uncertainty. The show will run until February 22.  Scottsdale Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scottsdale native James Frederick was named to the spring dean’s list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (earning a GPA between 3.5 and 3.89) following Monday’s announcement.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carefree, Cave Creek, and Scottsdale approved their municipal budgets for FY 2025—2026 with a focus on public safety, infrastructure, and financial stability. Scottsdale’s $2.204 billion plan funds over 98 new full-time safety positions and park upkeep—while Carefree and Cave Creek set aside funds for road repairs, emergency services, and potential open space purchases.  City Sun Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rabies cases increased this spring while only a few cases were reported this summer, and wildlife biologists and county officials say pet owners must keep dogs current on rabies shots+avoid contact with wild animals. They advise that anyone who suspects exposure should call public health officials+their veterinarian immediately.  KJZZ
