- ➤ Southwest Key Programs (a major shelter for unaccompanied immigrant minors) laid off about 1,500 workers across the state after the federal government ended its grant funding. KTAR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Scottsdale Police arrested 37-year-old Luis Jimenez-Mojica and 26-year-old Daniel Ortega from Colombia on Aug. 6 at 10:14 p.m.—the charges include theft, fraud and identity theft related to a ring that targeted elderly shoppers and led to over $10,000 in fraudulent purchases. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Weather Service extended an extreme heat warning for Maricopa and Pinal counties through Tuesday — temperatures may reach 117 degrees by Aug. 12. Scottsdale Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scottsdale is asking residents to volunteer for seven positions on boards and commissions, including the Airport Advisory Commission and Library Board, according to a press release. Applications must be submitted online by Friday, August 15+ the City Council will review candidates in September and start training new members before they begin their term. Scottsdale Independent
