- ➤ A $60 million notice of claim has been filed against the Arizona Department of Child Safety alleging the agency failed to protect 11-year-old Chaskah Davis Smith, who died at a Scottsdale extended-stay hotel in 2022, and his brother from prolonged abuse amid reports of mistreatment by their grandmother & her husband. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The West’s Most Western Rodeo will be held at WestWorld of Scottsdale equidome arena from Sept. 5 to Sept. 7 and is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. The event will feature Hispanic Western Heritage Day honoring the Corral and Noriega families, bull riding with $9,500 in winnings, and rodeo competitions starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 6 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 7—live music will follow on the first two nights and children five and under may enter free. - ➤ Research from FINRA Investor Education Foundation shows that 60% of Arizonans struggle with expenses, and members of the Arizona Financial Literacy Task Force—chaired by State Treasurer Kimberly Yee—say schools and free online resources like EconReads and the SIFMA Foundation’s Stock Market Game must provide ongoing financial education so local students and adults are better prepared for future challenges.
