COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Earlier this summer, the City of Scottsdale and Willmeng Construction completed $13.1 million in upgrades at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park —7301 E. Indian Bend Road— by building a new 7,500-square-foot roundhouse that offers a railroad-themed indoor play area, offices, and public restrooms. The renovation also improved the park with a concrete plaza, amphitheater, splash pad, relocated historic train cars, and enhanced landscaping and lighting.  Scottsdale Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale for the Arizona Concours d’Eleganc car show at the Scottsdale Civic Center on January 18, 2026. The event will feature 100 rare collector vehicles including vintage Indian motorcycles and supercars and will offer awards, special costume contests and discount ticket prices for students and active military members in partnership with Scottsdale Arts.  Scottsdale Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Engineers are designing underground systems with heat-resistant materials to keep water lines, sewer pipes and power conduits working during record highs—using special coatings and careful planning to handle rising temperatures. Work crews protect themselves with cooled work spaces and regular breaks to avoid heat stress.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scottsdale Fire Department now uses electric bikes to speed up rescues and saved three hikers suffering from heat-related illnesses by cutting response times by 45 minutes on trails such as Gateway Loop and Saguaro Canyon. The department has two bikes in service and will add six more soon—improving life safety for both hikers and crews.  KTAR
  • Thomas M. Chavez wrote a letter to Governor Hobbs and the state legislature urging a review of Arizona’s at-will employment laws—he warned that the current policy harms job security and the state’s economy. He called for a task force to study Montana’s model and reform unemployment benefits to better protect workers.  Scottsdale Independent
  • The City of Scottsdale is spending over $40 million this fiscal year to improve Old Town by upgrading Main Street and two parking structures. The first project is a controversial $15.2 million parking garage at First Street and Brown Avenue scheduled to finish in spring 2027—many residents oppose its location.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Arizona Cardinals rookie Jordan Burch impressed in his preseason debut by pressuring the quarterback three times against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team is now working with him on his quick start — his first step off the ball must improve for him to succeed.  The Arizona Republic
