CULTURE NEWS

  • Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West will display Southwestern artist Mac Schweitzer’s work from Oct. 18 through September—featuring a comprehensive collection of paintings, sketches, prints and archival materials donated by her family. Museum guests will join curator Ann Hedlund for a free presentation on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with nonmembers able to attend the program for $10.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale Arts launches its 2025–26 season with art exhibitions, concerts and dance performances at venues like the Center for the Performing Arts and SMoCA—events that will take place from September to November.  Arizona Digital Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes joined 44 state attorneys general on Monday to demand tech companies stop harmful AI interactions with kids. The group sent a letter saying some chatbots have engaged in unsafe roleplay with children — warning that companies could face consequences if they do not change their practices.  KTAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Television and movies have increased ALS awareness by showing characters who battle the disease—however, a 2024 study found that 70% of people know little about it. Local organizations such as ALS Arizona supported patients and caregivers while Gov. Katie Hobbs designated May as ALS Awareness Month.  Scottsdale Independent

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Scottsdale’s only senior pet rescue will host Canines + Cocktails on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Culinary Dropout in Scottsdale Quarter to mark National Adopt a Senior Pet Month; guests will enjoy curated brunch, live music, auctions and other activities to raise funds for senior dogs’ medical care.  Scottsdale Independent
