  • California-based Mendocino Farms will open its first Arizona restaurant at Scottsdale Promenade in 2026—set at the corner of Scottsdale Road and Paradise Lane with a 3,000-square-foot space and a 500-square-foot patio. CRIME NEWS

  • A Scottsdale officer suffered a minor injury when a large military-style SUV crashed into a parked patrol vehicle near 79th Street and Thomas Road early Friday at 4:30 a.m.—the driver was treated at the hospital and investigators looked into the incident.  ABC15 Arizona
  • Scottsdale police say two men stole credit cards from gym lockers in late July and used them to rack up thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases—10 thefts were reported from July 25 to Aug. 1 when staff were busy helping customers.  KJZZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Clemson University study using fruit flies showed that arsenic in Arizona groundwater hurt the brain — damaging vision and movement systems. Rural areas like Bouse once feared their tap water because of arsenic — but water system updates now make the water safer for residents.  The Arizona Republic

FINANCE NEWS

  • A new report warns that retirees in Arizona and other popular states like Florida and Texas may run out of money, as Social Security and retirement income are projected to fall short by about $154,000 over 18.1 years—prompting experts to advise delaying benefits, working longer, or downsizing to save funds.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Arizona planning to travel on Labor Day weekend should plan ahead because heavy traffic is expected on Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Monday with ADOT advising extra time on I-17 near Flagstaff where lane restrictions may slow traffic—other routes such as SR 87, SR 260 and US 93 will also be busy. There are no state highway closures scheduled from September 1 to 5—travelers are urged to check conditions frequently and carry an emergency kit.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Banner Health announced that five well-known cardiologists from Scottsdale, led by interventional cardiologist David Rizik, will join the nonprofit organization to boost cardiovascular services in Scottsdale and the East Valley.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale Fashion Square and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the mall’s south parking lot at 7014 E. Camelback Road — donors with all blood types are welcome and gift cards for a free coffee will be given, with appointments encouraged and walk-ins accepted.  Scottsdale Independent
