  • PickleRage announced it is expanding into the greater Phoenix area and five additional markets including Western Cook County, Huntsville, South Florida, Dublin, and York County. The indoor pickleball club franchise said each new club will be locally owned and operated and will have opening costs ranging from $827,800—$1,803,200 as it works to add more than 500 locations nationwide within five years.  KTAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Justice Department did not defend the federal grant program for Hispanic-Serving Institutions that gives about $350 million a year to help Arizona colleges and students. Local education leaders and nonprofits plan to arrange new funds to support these programs — a move that could protect student services.  Scottsdale Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The San Carlos Reservoir held only 8,627 acre-feet on Sept. 10—far below its 900,000 acre-feet capacity—and farmers in the San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District now risk losing their water supply if it runs dry by month’s end. They will have to rely on groundwater that may not be enough to water their crops.  The Arizona Republic

  • Today, Banner Health—the largest health system in Arizona—is not giving or prescribing the new COVID-19 vaccines as it waits for ACIP guidelines on September 18 and 19, leaving many patients struggling to get vaccinated.  The Arizona Republic

  • Arizona State beat Texas State 34 to 15 at Mountain America Stadium on Sept. 13 when a key takeaway — a forced fumble that was recovered on the next play — boosted the Sun Devils after a recent loss.
