  • Scottsdale teen Jordan Sucato is working with Sen. John Kavanagh—who is from Fountain Hills—to propose two animal rights bills in next year’s legislative session. She first decided to fight animal cosmetic testing at age 12.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Black Rock Coffee Bar, a Scottsdale drive-thru chain, debuted on Nasdaq on Friday and raised over $294 million in its IPO—pushing its valuation above $1 billion as shares climbed from an initial $20 pricing.  ABC15 Arizona

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale Arts will host its annual Canal Convergence from Nov. 7 to 16 with interactive, light-based artworks that fuse public art and performance in a SHOWTIME theme. The event features installations such as Big Art’s BIG TV and Amigo’s Octopoda—an octopus sculpture that transforms sound into light shows for visitors.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale’s Museum of the West—partnering with True West Magazine—is hosting The Resurrection of Billy the Kid exhibit from Oct. 4 through Dec. 31, where 20 paintings and two sculptures by Bob Boze Bell, Thom Ross and Buckeye Blake are on display. Guests can also join the Billy the Kid Film Series featuring films at 2 p.m. from Oct. 10 through Dec. 14 at 3830 N. Marshall Way.  Scottsdale Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Scottsdale Recovery Center is offering fall training sessions in CPR, first aid, AED use and Narcan administration to help residents act in an emergency. The monthly sessions—beginning Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its north Scottsdale location—cost $100 per person with group discounts available.  City Sun Times
