  • Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park will celebrate its 50th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 4 by hosting a free golden jubilee from 3 to 8:30 p.m., and train and carousel rides will cost $3 with additional fun including bounce houses, face painting & balloon artists, food trucks, live music and a drone light show. The park recently finished $13.1 million in renovations, adding a new splash pad and an indoor play area called the roundhouse at 7301 E. Indian Bend Road.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Gallery Andrea in Scottsdale presents Monsoon Artwork, a new exhibition that celebrates Arizona's skies and storm clouds with art and wearable fashion designs — the show features local and international artists at 7019 E. Main St.  Scottsdale Independent
  • East Valley sculptor and multimedia artist Gary Vulcano’s work will be presented at On the Edge Gallery on E.   • Valley freeways are undergoing improvement projects this weekend as Northbound Loop 101 in Scottsdale is closed between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road from Friday night to Monday morning and Westbound Loop 202 in Chandler is closed for bridge work. Drivers should allow extra travel time and follow detour instructions — work may change with rain.  Scottsdale Independent
