CULTURE NEWS

  • Deborah Correa's debut film The War Between is a Western historical drama that tells a Civil War story about memory and identity at Picacho Pass—filmed entirely in Arizona. It premiered at the Phoenix Film Festival and held a special screening at Harkins Shea 14 in Scottsdale, and it will be released digitally on Nov. 25.  Scottsdale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scottsdale residents filed a lawsuit Friday to block Axon's plan to build a new global headquarters with a hotel and apartments after over 25,000 residents signed a referendum against the project. The suit by Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions seeks an injunction from Maricopa County Superior Court to stop a state law designed solely for Axon’s benefit—forcing the project forward despite local opposition.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Baller Dream Foundation helps Arizona kids and young adults battling cancer with emotional and financial support. The nonprofit will host its sixth Dinner of Dreams at Caesars Republic Scottsdale on Nov. 14—raising funds for local families facing leukemia and other cancers.  Scottsdale Progress

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arizona State completed a 17-point comeback to defeat No. 25 TCU 27—24 at Mountain America Stadium on September 26. Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns and led the largest comeback in school history, and the win may prompt voters to rank the Sun Devils in the Top 25.  The Arizona Republic
  • Chaparral High School has a strong swimming legacy with 19 state championships and more than 75 collegiate swimmers before new coach Edward Hadley replaced Russell Krzyzanowski last summer.
