  • Scottsdale Leadership honored four individuals with Spirit of Community Leadership Awards on Monday, October 13th at 8:00 a.m.—Kathy Wills earned the Drinkwater Leadership Award, Denny Brown received the Hodges Alumni Achievement Award, Karina Koppikar was given the Jenkins Youth Leadership Award, and Pastor Jackie Parks took home the Frances Younn Trailblazer Award.  Scottsdale Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Seven Arizona breweries won medals at the Great American Beer Festival on October 11 in Denver after competing with over 1,500 brewers and cider makers—awards recognized creative and quality craft beers from winners in Metro Phoenix, Tucson, and Prescott.  The Arizona Republic

  • Scottsdale fighter Mark Kerr said watching Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson play him in the upcoming film The Smashing Machine felt almost unreal. The film is based on a 2002 documentary of his life in mixed martial arts and his battle with addiction.  The Arizona Republic
  • Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra is launching its new season with a concert called 'Echoes of a New World: Reflections on Resilience and Renewal' at Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts (7380 E. 2nd St.) on Oct 19.
