BUSINESS NEWS

  • Banner Health is pushing ahead with its $400 million hospital plan in Scottsdale despite opposition from the airport commission and firefighters—who warned that emergency helicopter flights might risk safety near Hayden Road and Loop 101— and it will soon present its proposal to the city Planning Commission. Local groups have voiced concerns that the project could strain services and compromise aviation safety.  ABC15 Arizona

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Recent rains have brought the Sonoran Desert toad to local areas as it emerges during the monsoon season when water is needed for reproduction — experts say its skin contains a strong psychedelic that highlights local environmental health.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • HonorHealth expanded its awake brain surgery program when a 72-year-old retired engineer underwent an awake craniotomy to remove a tumor and protect his speech—marking the first such procedure at the hospital. His successful recovery shows that new neurosurgery options will soon be available for other patients—offering local care with careful brain mapping.  Arizona Digital Free Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Scottsdale Plaza Resort is set to be rebranded as Kimpton Miralina Resort & Villas at 7200 N. Scottsdale Road, making it IHG Hotels & Resorts’ first luxury and lifestyle property in Paradise Valley when it opens early 2026. The 42-acre resort will feature over 400 rooms and villas and will undergo a major renovation to reimagine its space.  ABC15 Arizona

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Green Bay Packers 27—23 on Oct 19 and dropped to a 2—5 record as they struggled to finish close games. Coach Jonathan Gannon said his team must fight harder during their week off while quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepped in and Kyler Murray is expected to return for their upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.  The Arizona Republic
  • The NBA’s 80th season opens today with two games airing on NBC and Peacock while the Phoenix Suns will begin their season tomorrow with a home opener against the Sacramento Kings at Mortgage Match Arena at 7 p.m.—most Suns’ games will also air locally on Arizona’s Family Sports.  The Arizona Republic
  • Student athletes will compete at the inaugural Arizona High School Pickleball Championships on Dec. 6–7 at Dink and Dine Pickle Park in Mesa—where five state titles and an overall champion will be awarded using a single-elimination format. Future events may help make pickleball an official high school sport and are planned for a new indoor facility in North Scottsdale in 2027.  Arizona Digital Free Press
