COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ocean 44, a Scottsdale-based steakhouse, will host a USO baby shower on Nov. 15 at 4748 N. Goldwater Blvd for 30 expecting military moms from active-duty National Guard or Reserve families—organizers said the event will include baby games and prizes to give the mothers a traditional shower.  Scottsdale Independent
  • The Gary Sinise Foundation provided a new, mortgage-free home for injured Marine veteran Brad Ivanchan in Scottsdale — the adapted house offers him a safe and accessible environment after years in an unsuitable space.  ABC15 Arizona

  • Hi Noon Hospitality will open Pinyon, a coastal Mediterranean restaurant, in Old Town Scottsdale at 7363 E. Scottsdale Mall on Oct. 29 — the new venue draws design and flavor inspiration from many Mediterranean cultures.  ABC15 Arizona

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Arizona Taco Festival was held at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale on Oct. 18-19 and awarded Just Tacos and More Best in Show for its chile relleno taco. Awards went to vendors including Flaco's Tacos, Tacos El Arabe, Cuisine Privé, La Villa DF, SOL Mexican Cocina for best booth, and Volanti as runner-up—recognizing a range of creative taco recipes.  The Arizona Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Scottsdale Saguaros granted $250,000 to the Banner Health Foundation to support the Banner Children’s Community Clinics in Mesa and Tolleson plus the Healthmobile that offers free primary care to uninsured children. Representatives accepted the donation at the Mesa clinic and said it will help thousands of uninsured kids get the care they need.  Scottsdale Independent
  • A new wellness studio called beem Light Sauna will open in Scottsdale on Nov. 15 at 10115 E. Bell Rd. and will offer first-time clients a complimentary light therapy and infrared sauna session (the opening event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).  Scottsdale Independent
  • Chaparral High School in Scottsdale will host a car wash fundraiser for SMA on Saturday, October 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—all proceeds will benefit Cure SMA as the Chaparral Football Boosters match donations.  ABC15 Arizona

  • Arizona State receiver Jaren 'Turbo' Hamilton, a former track standout, posted his first 100-yard game on Oct. 18th and now shows promise as a key playmaker for the Sun Devils. His speed and breakthrough performance—combined with concerns over Jordyn Tyson's injury history—could boost the team under quarterback Sam Leavitt’s guidance.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Arizona Republic updated its Super 25 high school football rankings as of Oct. 21, listing the Chandler Basha Bears at No. 1 with a 7-0 record and featuring teams like the Chandler Hamilton Huskies.
