COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association will host its 22nd annual Desert Dog Police K9 Trials and Public Safety Expo at WestWorld in Scottsdale from November 8—9. The event will feature interactive public safety booths, a police dog obstacle course, guest speaker Erin Switzer who captured motion for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and stars in The Terminal List, and tickets cost $10 in advance, $15 at the door with free entry for children 12 and under.  Scottsdale Independent
  • As homelessness in Maricopa County worsens, local leaders have compiled a list of volunteer and donation opportunities to help people living in cars, tents and makeshift shelters. Residents can support groups like AZ HUGS and Andre House (which provide meals, showers and other basic services) to aid those in need.  The Arizona Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale City Council approved $125,000 for the local Art Walk Gold Palette after debate over a $150,000 allocation for the Day of the Dead festival run by LORE Media and Arts — local gallery owners argued that more city funds should benefit homegrown cultural events. They said the funding decision will help boost downtown activity and support Scottsdale’s vibrant arts scene.  Scottsdale Progress

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Suchitra Pilli explained that people are breathing tiny plastic pieces every day that may cause lung inflammation and other health problems while indoor air can hold up to 45 times more microplastics than outdoors. She advised opening windows and using HEPA filters to reduce exposure—steps that can improve indoor air quality.  Arizona Digital Free Press

  • Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon announced that Bam Knight will start as running back in Monday Night Football against Dallas, ending a week of uncertainty at the position.
