COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family Promises of Greater Phoenix, a nonprofit fighting homelessness, received $45,000 from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community — the funds will boost services at its Family Day Centers that offer shelter, food, case management, childcare, financial training and job support including two in Scottsdale.  Scottsdale Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kate Spade Outlet is offering early Black Friday deals with discounts of up to 70% off plus an extra 25% on select designer items—handbags, jewelry and accessories meant to attract Scottsdale shoppers. The preview sale gives customers a chance to shop these deals before the main sale begins on Nov. 28.  The Arizona Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Department of Transportation announced nine contest winners from over 3,700 submissions—Robert Hopper from Surprise with his message 'Fast and furious? Try safe and courteous' and eight others who submitted 'Camp in the woods, not the left lane.' All winners will have their messages displayed at the Traffic Operations Center to promote safe driving habits.  KTAR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Valley baseball fans will soon see Team USA and four international national teams play spring training games in Arizona as teams prepare for the World Baseball Classic— the Diamondbacks will host Mexico on Tuesday, March 3 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. MLB announced the spring training schedules on Wednesday, and game start times have yet to be set.  Scottsdale Independent
  • The Cardinals are likely to part ways with quarterback Kyler Murray as ESPN and NFL Media reported that Jacoby Brissett has taken over as starter after Murray was placed on injured reserve. The team will hold discussions before the free agency begins on March 11, and a release or trade could trigger major salary cap impacts—reports note that a release may cause a $57.7 million hit and a trade a $17.9 million hit.  The Arizona Republic
  • Jalen Green left the Suns game on Saturday night after he hurt his hamstring in the first quarter while scoring two points in his second game with the team—Suns officials announced he would not return to the court and will miss more play.  Scottsdale Independent
