- ➤ Wounded veteran Corporal Brad Ivanchan, who was injured in Afghanistan when an IED exploded, has moved into his mortgage-free specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation in Scottsdale. He said he feels grateful for the heroism of his squad and plans to join other injured veterans for a mountain climbing event this Veterans Day. Scottsdale Progress

- ➤ Scottsdale’s International School of Arizona’s 38 middle school students recently helped at St. Mary’s Food Bank as a prolonged shutdown and cuts to food benefits increased demand by 10 percent to 15 percent—students loaded food into cars and held a food drive. Scottsdale Independent

- ➤ Anthony Pagliuca of Scottsdale won ADOT’s Safety Message Contest with his slogan, Camp in the woods, not the left lane. He was one of two winners chosen from over 3,400 entries that received more than 3,700 votes — and he visited ADOT’s Traffic Operations Center to see his message go live on highway cameras. - ➤ Arizona water systems are working to renegotiate state rights to Colorado River water and build more redundancy so that local water utilities use a mix of sources; CAP general manager Darrin Francom said many municipalities already include CAP, the Salt River Project, groundwater and reclaimed wastewater in their portfolios.
