  • Retired Navy veteran Richard Grant celebrated his 89th birthday at American Legion Post 44 in Old Town Scottsdale on November 15 with about 100 friends. The event marked key anniversaries—80th for the end of World War II, 50th for the Vietnam troop withdrawal, and 90th for the post.  Scottsdale Independent
  • Scottsdale City Councilwoman Kathy Littlefield answered simple questions in a Q&A series by the Scottsdale Independent to help residents learn about her work—she is 77 and dedicated to serving the community.  Scottsdale Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mantiqueira USA signed a binding deal to buy Hickman’s Egg Ranch, which has locations in Arizona including the West Valley. Hickman’s lost about 6 million birds to bird flu earlier this year — and the transaction is expected to close by the end of the year.  Scottsdale Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale, Carefree and Cave Creek will host the Hidden in the Hills tour over the last two weekends of November—one of Arizona’s largest free, self-guided studio tours—with Peoria artist Jan Downey showcasing her gourd sculptures influenced by her work as a cultural anthropologist in Ethiopia.  Scottsdale Independent
