COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Run the District returns on Saturday, Jan. 24 when the Cave Creek Unified Education Foundation will host a family-friendly 5K run/walk—Kids Fun Run, pancake breakfast, DJ and inflatable games at Falcon Field at Cactus Shadows High School, with registration starting at 8 a.m., the Kids Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m. The event’s $30 and $15 fees will benefit education programs in the school district.  City Sun Times
  • The Kiwanis Club of Carefree has funded 1,000 holiday meals to be delivered by Foothills Food Bank for families in need across the Desert Foothills. Rising food assistance requests and suspended SNAP benefits led the club to shift its original two-holiday plan to focus solely on Thanksgiving—ensuring urgent help reaches more local households.  City Sun Times
  • Veterans and their families may join a six-part Veteran Community Series starting Dec. 3 at the Scottsdale Community Design Studio, 7506 E. Indian School Rd, where monthly sessions run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. — the first meeting focuses on Wellbeing as later sessions will cover Leadership, Volunteerism, and Connection.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Freddy’s largest franchise operator, M&M Custard LLC, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to rising costs and underperforming Chicago stores—none of the 31 Arizona Freddy’s restaurants will be affected. Freddy’s corporate confirmed no ownership changes and no additional closures are planned.  The Arizona Republic
  • thestudio North America opened its first Arizona office in Scottsdale—located at 15051 N. Kierland Blvd.—and now offers in-house event production, design, and fabrication for major brands such as Netflix and the NFL.  Arizona Digital Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scottsdale Arts announced a December program of holiday events featuring concerts, dance, comedy and art exhibitions at venues such as the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The events run from Dec.5 through Dec.21 and tickets range from $20 to $56 — the schedule highlights a variety of shows that bring the holiday spirit to local audiences.  City Sun Times
  • Royse Contemporary is showing an exhibition titled 'Imagination or Reality' that features work by seven artists who explore truth and illusion through collage, drawing, painting, photography and mixed media—an event designed to spark dialogue about the nature of reality.   • Officials at Wrigley Mansion announced the 6th annual Festivin, scheduled for Jan. 15-18, which will feature wine dinners, interactive seminars and adoptable puppies benefiting Almost There: A Mom and Pup Rescue — the event will include a Grand Tasting with over 150 wines and chef-led cuisine. Organizers add that tickets will be available soon — seminars will also cover blind tastings and champagne pairings for wine enthusiasts.  City Sun Times

  • Scottsdale Saguaro High fired head football coach Darius Kelly after two seasons - the team finished with a 4-16 record overall and a 3-7 season amid challenges including player departures after bias allegations. Kelly said he wished for more time to build the program and planned to continue coaching at other levels.  The Arizona Republic
