COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On November 19, the Rosendin Foundation raised over $330,000 at its 4th Annual TRF Golf Tournament and Auction at The Westin Kierland Golf Course in Scottsdale as 33 industry companies and 150 golfers took part. The funds will support its grant program, which gave a $50,000 grant to America's Mighty Warriors to aid veterans and other health initiatives in Arizona—strengthening local nonprofit efforts.  Scottsdale Independent
  • A recent study from ASU’s L. William Seidman Research Institute found that every dollar invested in Boys and Girls Clubs returned $14.79 in community benefits in 2024-25 — totaling nearly $400M from over 30 locations. Marica Mintz said the clubs served more than 20,000 youth across 14 cities in four counties.  Scottsdale Independent

  • PEG Cos. announced that the AC Hotel Scottsdale Old Town will open in early February (168 rooms) in Old Town Scottsdale. The hotel features a rooftop pool, bar and restaurant, lounge, fitness center, flexible meeting space and a three-story underground parking garage (located at 7117 E. 3rd Ave.).  ABC15 Arizona

CRIME NEWS

  • On November 7, hundreds of uninvited teens crashed a birthday party at board member Dr. Matthew Pittinsky’s home—police and private security shut the event down and an underage girl was taken to hospital for possible alcohol poisoning.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Scottsdale photographer Jackie Marlowe, who moved from Wisconsin 20 years ago, has her wildlife photo featured in Arizona Wildlife Views’ full-size 2026 wildlife calendar—she said she will keep honing her skills and sharing her love for nature.  Scottsdale Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arizona Department of Education has deployed Khanmigo—an AI tutoring tool from Khan Academy—in Scottsdale Unified and other districts after a $1.5 million investment, and more than 170,000 students across the state now use the platform. Superintendent Tom Horne said the tool guides students with a Socratic method and helps teachers focus on creative work, a move that may boost learning outcomes statewide.  Scottsdale Progress

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Scottsdale-based real estate firm HomeSmart raised over $20,000 at its Nov. 4 golf event at McCormick Ranch Golf Club—funding its agent emergency fund and charitable arm, HomeSmart Helps, which aids agents with expenses like utilities, medical bills, and funerals. The event brought together local professionals and sponsors to support emergency needs.  Scottsdale Independent

  • Sunrise Mountain girls volleyball lost the 5A state final to top-seeded Scottsdale Chaparral on November 15 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum—Chaparral recorded 15 blocks while Sunrise Mountain had 7—ending their best season.  Scottsdale Independent
