- ➤ Today, many Arizona retailers kick off Black Friday early with stores like Bass Pro Shop and JCPenney opening at 5 a.m., malls starting at 8 a.m., and others such as Best Buy, Home Depot, Macy's, and Target opening between 6 and 7 a.m., while most were closed on Thanksgiving to give staff a rest. - ➤ Holiday light displays are brightening the East Valley as residents enjoy festive events in Rawhide Western Town with a 7-million light show tonight and in nearby Mesa and Gilbert. - ➤ Metro Phoenix is full of holiday light displays this season—Scottsdale’s Christmas at the Princess shines with 10 million lights, ice skating and festive activities from today through January. - ➤ The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board will vote on December 9 on Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel’s recommendation to close Pima Elementary — Echo Canyon K-8 during a meeting at Coronado High School starting at 6 p.m. at 7501 E. - ➤ A Scottsdale Unified School District governing board member hosted a party earlier this month that was shut down by police when hundreds of uninvited teenagers showed up—state lawmakers are now calling for his resignation amid reports of underage drinking and a teen being taken to the hospital.
