- ➤ Lost Our Home Pet Rescue held its 16th annual Sit. Stay. Brunch event on Dec. 5 at Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in the Town of Paradise Valley. The event drew 350 guests and raised $539,900 for pet care, food bank, shelter services and veterinary care. Arizona Digital Free Press
- ➤ The Veteran and Military Affairs Coalition is hosting a holiday mixer (tickets cost $5 and include appetizers, wine and beer) Dec. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Paul Martin’s American Grill for veterans, veteran-owned businesses and supporters. Scottsdale Independent

- ➤ Ramps along I-17 and Loop 101 will be closed for work from Friday night until Monday morning (Dec. 5-8) for freeway projects, officials said; drivers are advised to use detours like Dove Valley Road and Hayden Road to reach their destinations. Scottsdale Independent
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State health officials will continue recommending the hepatitis B shot for newborns within 24 hours of birth, despite a CDC panel (which recently revised its recommendation) suggesting otherwise. Dr. Joel Terriquez said the long-standing practice prevents severe complications and costly treatments if vaccination is delayed. Scottsdale Independent
